Around The Lake For Charlies Sake
Lisa and Mark take us around Lake George for Charlie's Sake and to support the Cycstic Fibrosis Foundation.
At least once a month we make an attempt to visit the Web Site owned by the Adirondack Harley Owners Group. We take a peek at their schedule of events to see if anything new has been added so that we can the add it to our schedule of events for the magazine.
On our last visit we saw a new entry that we did not have. The name of the event was “Around The Lake For Charlie’s Sake” and it was to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Once again, we asked the ride coordinator for the information and updated our schedule with it.
The ride was scheduled to depart McDermott’s Harley Davidson in Fort Ann NY and was being executed by the Adirondack Chapter of the Harley’s Owner Group. I love rides that leave McDermott’s and I love rides that are being executed by the Adirondack Chapter of HOG. With those two factors in play and a name like “Around The Lake For Charlie’s Sake” it was pretty evident to me that we would be making this run.
Upon my arrival at McDermott’s I registered and introduced myself and the magazine. I was soon introduced to Lisa and Mark who were the ride coordinators. While growing up, Lisa’s younger brother Charley succumbed to Cystic Fibrosis before his second birthday. Throughout her adult life, Lisa has worked tirelessly in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the work that they do in an attempt to find a cure. After talking with Lisa, I bumped into Alise and we talked bikes, bikers and the state of the magazine. I always will be indebted to Alise and McDermott’s Harley Davidson for the support that they have shown the magazine. To them it is a sound business decision; to me it is so much more.
The Adirondack Chapter of HOG has a no alcohol policy on their rides and the rides they execute never stop at bars or taverns which for me is a good change of pace. The route of the ride was around Lake George with a termination at Charlie’s BBQ on Route 149 in Queensbury.
The ride departed McDermott’s Harley Davidson and proceeded north on Route 4 to Fort Ann where we turned east onto Route 149. We travelled on Route 149 until we intersected Ridge Road. A right onto Ridge Road and we travelled along the east side of Lake George until we reached Lake George Village. We intersected Route 9 and traveled north until we intersected with Route 9N and proceeded north on 9N.
Our first stop was Sheppard’s Park in Bolton Landing. This was a nice alternative for a rest stop and with the leaves just starting to turn; the view of Lake George and the Sagamore Hotel was quite impressive.
We departed Sheppard’s Park and continued North on 9N through Hague and into Ticonderoga. Our second stop was at the Stewart’s Shop in Ticonderoga where we filled up on fuel, coffee and snacks. We departed the Stewart’s Shop and proceeded to Whitehall where we connected to Route 4. Route 4 South took us back to Fort Ann where we intersected with Route 149 East and proceeded on to Charlie’s BBQ.
A great ride well planned and well executed for a very worthy cause. The pace of the ride was perfect; the route provided a variety of riding conditions and also provided multiple opportunities to view Lake George as we proceeded up Route 9N. I sincerely hope that Lisa and Mark make this an annual event.
