Biker's For Boobies Run - 2011

By Ed Frulla   Thu, Sep 08, 2011

A first annual ride with a newly formed club that way exceeded our expectations.

Biker's For Boobies Run - 2011

First Annual runs can be a craps shoot.  Throw in a new MC that has been around for about a year and you have the potential for an ah shit day.  That is part of the reason that the magazine exists.  It is our job to go on these runs with a high ah shit potential and then tell you, our readers and subscribers exactly what you may be in for if you chose to attend the second annual run.

We felt very good about the prospects of having a successful day because the “Bikers For Boobies” run was being hosted by the American Guardians PS MC.  We had a chance to meet the President of the club (Playboy) and did a feature article on the club in the August issue.  During this meeting it became apparent that the leadership appeared to be solid and there was a good chance that the Bikers For Boobies run would be a success.

We rolled into Humbuggs in South Glens Falls and I was pleasantly surprised to find a large number of bikes in the parking lot and quite a few familiar faces as well.  Registration was quick, fill out the usual form and sign the release.  The run benefits the “Making Strides Against Cancer” organization and they were on hand selling T-Shirts and other themed products.  Now any T-shirt that has the words biker and boobies on the same shirt is a shirt worth buying.  After my purchase, I slid into my usual routine of taking pictures and videos and chatting with those in attendance until the command was given to mount up.  “Axe” is the Vice President of the local chapter of the American Guardians PS MC and extended to me the honor of riding at the front of the ride with the host club.  Unfortunately, I need to be in the rear so that I can shoot the video with the helmet cam.  I thanked him for the most generous offer but explained that I needed to be in the back of the pack.

The ride departed Humbuggs with ninety bikes and worked its way over to Hudson Falls, NY where it picked up Route 4.  It was immediately apparent that this ride was well organized.  It seemed as if every intersection had traffic control in place in the form of Fire Police from the local Volunteer Fire Departments.  This was a common theme throughout the whole ride.  Even in Vermont, the local Volunteer Fire Departments were out in force to make sure the ride proceeded without incident.  I later learned that “Axe” is a Chief of one of the local fire departments and arranged for the traffic control.  The amount of coordination that this must have taken had to be staggering and for a first annual event it was impressive.

The ride proceeded up Route 4 to Whitehall, NY and stopped at Finius T. Flubberbuster’s ROADHOUSE BBQ & Grill.  Dave and the staff at Finius T’s were well prepared.  The service was fast and there were sandwiches and salads to munch on.  Dave and his staff always do a great job and I am surprised that more rides flowing through the Whitehall NY area do not stop there.  The Boozfighters Chapter 80 was on this run so I hung out with them and rode with them for most of the run.

After our brief stop at Finius T’s the ride headed north around Lake St. Catherine on our way to Granville, NY where we would then proceed to our next stop which was the Hartford Town Tavern in Hartford, NY.  Once again, I will reiterate how impressed I was that every little community that we passed through during this leg of the run had Volunteer Fire Department Fire Police handling traffic control.  The ride arrived at the Hartford Town Tavern but I slid on over to the local Stewart’s Shop to top off the bike and get a Pepsi to drink.  I kicked back at the Stewart’s and listened to sounds of life that were occurring all around me and just collected my thoughts on the ride so far.  Eventually I mounted up and rode over to the Hartford Town Tavern.  I hung out with the crowd, talked bikes and other subjects and waited for the command to mount up.

We departed Hartford, NY and headed to our next stop which was the American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls, NY.  The Post 574 was set up to host a wedding reception so it was an eclectic mix of personas with our group in our biker gear and the wedding party and guests in their formal attire.  Fortunately for the new Bride we were about to leave and would pose a minimal interference to her special day.

We departed Post 574 and made a short hop over to Humbuggs in South Glens Falls.  Humbuggs was ready for our arrival and the band Groove Therapy was on hand to keep us entertained which they did quite well.

After some socializing, a few sodas and some food I was ready to head towards the home front so I mounted the bike and headed off into the sunset so to speak.  This ride was very well planned and executed.  I am not sure if there will be a Second Annual Bikers For Boobies run.  If there is, you can bet that I will plan on attending it.  If there is no Second Annual run you can bet that I will gladly participate in any event hosted by the American Guardians PS MC.

To Playboy and Axe and the rest of the members of the American Guardians PS MC, you guys and gals should be extremely proud of this event.  I have attended events that have been going on for much longer that are no way near as well executed as your event was.

Congratulations on a job well done.  I had a great time and you can bet that I will be at the Second Annual Bikers For Boobies run if it is held.

Thank you for the great article and praise on this ride. We worked extremely hard to make this a great success for Making Strides against Breast Cancer and without all the clubs, and riders who attended it would not be what it was. I also want to thank Humbuggs for hosting this and Groove Therapy for the fantastic entertainment, as well as Flubberbusters, Hartford Tavern, and American Legion for there hospitality during our stops, and all the fire departments for their assistance with road blocks throughout NY and VT. We have decided that we want this to be an every year event and will be planning it for August 25th, 2012. We look forward to seeing everyone there again next year, thank you again to everyone who participated. Americas Guardians NY 11-A
