Boozefighters Chapter 80 - Poker Run
Boozefighters Chapter 80 (Timberjacks) does a large amount of good for the community of Warrensburg with the benefit events that they stage, so when they have an event I make every effort to support their organization. Besides that, most of the members are friends that I grew up with and it is a chance to meet up with them and catch up on the news. On June 4th, Chapter 80 had scheduled a Poker Run and I decided to attend.
The run started at CBs Spirits and Restaurant in Warrensburg. While there I got to meet old acquaintances and make some new friends. Chuck (the owner of CBs) had his vintage BMW complete with sidecar in the parking lot. Anyone who knows Chuck knows that he has a boat load of bikes in storage and some of them he has yet to even start. The vintage BMW was in that category but he decided to get it running and let it see the light of day. It was a nice piece and I am glad that he had it at the restaurant.
The ride departed CBs with 14 bikes and headed north to Indian Lake, NY via Route 9 and Route 28. A stop at the Bear Trap in Indian Lake is always in order when taking a ride through Indian Lake so we did. The Bear Trap laid out some snacks and we managed to make them disappear in short order. After some liquid refreshments we mounted up and headed to Speculator via Route 30. In Speculator we connected with Route 8 and headed to our next stop.
Our next stop was J & J’s Fox Laire Tavern. I love stopping at J & J’s, Ricky and Joe are the consummate hosts and you always feel welcome when you stop there. After downing some more liquid refreshments we departed for our final destination which was Ashes Hotel in Warrensburg, NY.
A quick trip across Route 8 to Route 28 and then a right onto the Golf Course Road and we were at Ashes. Ashes Hotel is set up nicely to handle such an event. They have an outside bar, patio and a large event tent. There were only 14 bikes on the run but when we got to Ashes, the parking lot was full. There were several brotherhood clubs in attendance among them being the Jury, Boondock Saints and Boozefighters Chapter 60.
Chapter 80 had the grill going and it was not too long after our arrival that the burgers were ready as was the potato salad and green salad. After eating, the poker hands were drawn, prizes awarded and the winner of the 50/50 drawing was announced.
I had a good time on this run. It was well organized, well executed and provided some varied riding conditions plus riding with and meeting your friends is always a good experience.
