American Guardians PS MC - Bikers For Boobies Run
In May we received an e-mail asking us if we would be interested in profiling the newly formed chapter of the American Guardians PS MC. We scheduled a meeting with Neil who is the President and Colleen who is the Chapter Secretary and is organizing the “Bikers For Boobies” ride to benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a local organization that raises money to support the research required to find a cure for this devastating disease.
The local chapter was formed in March 2009 and chartered by the National organization in November 2011. Membership is restricted to Public Safety personnel such a police, EMTs, firemen, individuals in the medical field, military personnel etc. Membership is also extended to certain outstanding individuals who are deemed worth of membership because of their community service.
To join one needs to go to the National Organizations web site (WWW.AGNATION.US) and register there. Upon completing your registration at the National web site, your application will be forwarded to the local chapter. You can also send an e-mail to the club president at agmcplayboy@yahoo.com.
New members are on probation for a period of two months. When the probationary period is complete, the new member will be reviewed to see if the probation period needs to be extended or if they are deemed worth of membership. The primary guiding influence for membership is attitude and safety while operating a motorcycle.
The membership dues are $12.00 per year. This is a family oriented and minimal commitment club. There is no requirement for members to ride a certain number of miles each year and there are no mandatory rides.
This year the club is hosting a major event named “Bikers For Boobies” on August 27, 2001. The funds raised by this event will be given to “Making Strides Against Cancer”. The event fee is $20.00 per bike if pre-registered or $25.00 per bike at the gate. The run will depart Humbuggs in South Glens Falls and proceed to Fort Edward and from Fort Edward to Route 4. Route 4 will take the riders to Finnius T. Flubberbusters in Whitehall, NY where the ride will make a refreshment stop and munch on the food donated by Flubberbusters. The ride will depart Flubberbusters and proceed around Lake St. Catherine to Granville NY. From Granville the ride will go to Hartford NY where it will make a refreshment stop at the Hartford Tavern. From the Hartford Tavern the ride will proceed to the American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls for a final refreshment stop before proceeding to the final stop back at Humbuggs. Be advised that this route is tentative and may be changed by the ride organizers prior to the event. Personally, I hope it does not change because the ride around Lake St. Catherine would be a refreshing addition to the routes that we normally experience.
At Humbuggs there will be live entertainment donated by Groove Therapy and dinner donated by Humbuggs. There will be the usual 50/50 drawing, a live auction of donated products from local merchants and commerative T-shirts for sale.
To me, this sounds like a fun day and any event that supports the elimination of the scourge of cancer from this planet is a run that needs to be supported and attended. See you there.
